Embarking on Southeast Asia tour, GI heads to Malaysia first

The Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif and Chairman of the Muslim Council of Elders (MCE), Prof. Ahmad Al-Tayyeb, left Cairo this Monday afternoon heading to the Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur, embarking on a tour in Southeast Asia, which includes: Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia, following a number of official invitations presented by the three countries. His Eminence will meet senior officials, religious, cultural and political leaders to reinforce Al-Azhar-Malaysia relations, and to strengthen the unified Islamic position regarding confronting the aggression on Gaza and defending the rights of the Palestinian people.
 
During his stay in Kuala Lumpur, the Grand Imam is scheduled to meet with the Malaysian Prime Minister, Anwar bin Ibrahim, and hold consultative meetings with religious and cultural leaders and civil society institutions in Malaysia in order to discuss ways to strengthen the role of Al-Azhar, benefit from its extensive experience, spread its dawah and educational services in the country, and establish more Azhari centers for teaching the Arabic language in Malaysia.
 
The Grand Imam is also keen to meet Malaysian youth and engage in dialogue with them about the most prominent contemporary societal issues. His Eminence will hold a number of meetings with students and researchers of Islamic sciences in Malaysian universities.
