Al-Azhar keen to communicate with religious institutions to achieve world peace, the Grand Imam to delegation of German bishops
Al-Azhar Grand Imam, Prof. Ahmad At-Tayyeb, received a delegation of bishops from the International Church in Germany, headed by Auxiliary Bishop Udo Bentz, Head of the Middle East Working Group, during their visit to Cairo. Father Rafik Greish, Pastor of St. Cyril Church in Heliopolis, Cairo, attended the meeting.
The Grand Imam said that the true teachings of Islam call for real peace and human brotherhood among the followers of the divine religions, stressing Al-Azhar’s keenness to communicate and cooperate with religious institutions, and to exchange visions and ideas with various civilizations and cultures in order to achieve security and peace for all humankind.
Members of the German delegation expressed their appreciation for the Grand Imam’s vision of peace, communication and coexistence between different religions and civilizations. They stressed Germany’s need for Al-Azhar’s moderate curricula and discourse, as the most prominent moderate Islamic institution in the world.
