Ready to establish Azhari institutions to promote our moderate approach in Senegal, the Grand Imam
Al-Azhar Grand Imam, Prof. Ahmad At-Tayyeb, received today, Monday, Ambassador Elie Si Bey, Ambassador of the Republic of Senegal, at the end of his term as Ambassador to Egypt and upon his departure on a new diplomatic mission. The Grand Imam stated that Al-Azhar doors are always open to Senegalese students who represent their country well. We have about 350 delegates from Senegal at Al-Azhar, and 41 Azhari envoys in Senegal.
We are always ready to increase the number of scholarships in various disciplines at scientific and practical colleges, in order to serve the State of Senegal and meet the need of its people for specialists, and we intensify our efforts so that Al-Azhar may flourish in Africa.
For his part, the Senegalese Ambassador thanked the Grand Imam for his efforts in the cause of the Islamic call, to promote the tolerance of Islam, and to serve Senegalese students as well as all international students. He stressed the keenness of Senegal's presidency, government and people to benefit the most from the experiences and efforts of Al-Azhar. He also affirmed that Al-Azhar is a prestigious institution that occupies a special place and a high position among the Senegalese people. Al-Azhar Grand Imam and the Senegalese Ambassador discussed the establishment of Azhari institutes in Senegal, and Al-Azhar’s readiness to supply these institutes with teachers and envoys in order to achieve security and intellectual stability in Senegal. This will in turn affect various fields and promote the moderate Azhari approach. In addition, such efforts will make the Senegalese society immune against any extremist ideas, focusing on graduating distinguished cadres scientifically and practically.
