We continue to confront the promoted global attempts to abandon religious values—Grand Imam
The Danish Ambassador to Egypt highly values the role of the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar in combating extremism and raising awareness of environmental problems. The Grand Imam said, “Al-Azhar's fight against religious fanaticism and extremism, stemming from its global and societal responsibility. We now have a task under the current global conditions represented in redressing the mental image of Islam among the Westerners and combating the spread of the term Islamophobia, as well as refuting the false arguments of the extremist groups that aim at distorting the provisions and the principles of the Islamic religion among Muslims themselves. During his meeting with Mr. Svend Olling, Ambassador of Denmark to Cairo, the Grand Imam added that Al-Azhar has devoted many of its efforts to counter new global attempts aimed at destroying cultural and civilizational roots, abandoning religious values, and replacing them with visions that can be described as ‘the new tsunami’ in order to propagate modern ideas and systems prompted by the forces of money and politics which represents a great danger to the set of universal values. The Grand Imam touched on the climate change crisis and the international policies that paved the way for the spread of this phenomena , stressing that the refusal of the major industrialized countries to show any commitment towards the developing countries, that are mostly affected by these environmental changes, representing an explicit disclaim of their duties towards these countries and a clear disregard for the principle of shared responsibility which is the only solution to get our world out of this climate change crisis.
On his part, the Danish Ambassador said to the Grand Imam, “It is a great honor for me to meet Your Eminence. I eagerly follow the efforts you exert to combat religious fanaticism and extremism, promote interfaith dialogue and your relationship with Pope Francis”. These efforts exerted by such religious leaders have in turn moved to the broad sectors in all societies as we are all witnessing a remarkable shift in the relationship of the followers of religions towards each other.
The Danish Ambassador stressed that taking interest in the problem of climate change is one of Denmark's most important foreign policies. He stressed that there are different views adopted by the West in this regard, praising the efforts of the Grand Imam in this important file, and Denmark's quest to partnership with Al-Azhar to raise awareness of the dangers of this serious global crisis. The Danish Ambassador reviewed the efforts of the State of Denmark and its quest to find solutions to the climate change crisis, noting that Denmark always emphasizes the importance of supporting and financing developing countries and enhancing their capabilities to face the effects of environmental changes. He noted that Denmark has developed a plan to reduce carbon emissions with a clear goal to eliminate them completely by 2030, stressing Denmark's eagerness to form a bridge of communication between the East and the West in order that all of us would enjoy a better environment.
