His Eminence the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif and Chairman of the Muslim Council of Elders, Prof. Ahmad Al-Tayyeb received today, Monday, Rev. Dr. Andrea Zaki, Head of the Evangelical Community in Egypt, and an accompanying high-level delegation of Evangelical Church leaders. The delegation came to congratulate His Eminence on the upcoming Eid Al-Adha. He wished Egypt and its people—Muslims and Christians—lasting brotherhood, understanding, harmony, progress, stability, security, and safety.

The head of the Evangelical community said, “We congratulate Your Eminence and all our Muslim brothers on the upcoming blessed Eid al-Adha. We appreciate all your great efforts to preserve social peace, strengthen the bonds of national unity, and spread global peace, love, and coexistence. Your Eminence, you represent a great religious and humanitarian center, and a humanitarian leader whom we love, respect, and appreciate. We are proud of your role as an exceptional Egyptian national figure, and we appreciate Your Eminence's contribution to the historic Human Fraternity Document, which plays an important role in spreading brotherhood and consolidating positive coexistence.”

The Grand Imam, for his part, welcomed the Evangelical delegation to Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, emphasizing that these visits carry many positive meanings and reflect the values of friendship and brotherhood that bind Egyptians—Muslims and Christians alike. His Eminence stated, “These visits are not a custom or a protocol. Rather, every visit and every meeting serves to deepen true human brotherhood.”

His Eminence pointed out that the Egyptian Family House has played a significant role in decreasing the severity of hate speech, to the point that we now often see the sheikh sitting next to the priest at various occasions. He noted that scenes of Muslims and Christians exchanging greetings play a significant role in confronting problems, most of which are, in essence, social problems disguised as religious extremism.
