Al-Azhar Grand Imam mourns Syrian Azhari scholar Dr. Muhammad Hassan Hito
Accepting Allah's will and decree, His Eminence the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Prof. Ahmad Al-Tayyeb, mourns the passing of the esteemed Syrian Azharite scholar, Dr. Muhammad Hassan Hito, a leading expert in Islamic jurisprudential theory (Usul al-Fiqh) and Shafi'i jurisprudence, who passed away after a life rich in scholarly and educational contributions.
Al-Azhar recalls with deep appreciation the scholarly journey of the deceased, who was a model of the dedicated Azharite scholar. Early in his life, he insisted on joining Al-Azhar, enrolling in the Faculty of Sharia and Law, and continuing his academic excellence until he earned his doctorate in Islamic jurisprudence. He then became one of the most prominent figures who added to the Islamic intellectual hertage and the Shafi'i school of thought through his writing, teaching, and foundational work, leaving behind encyclopedic works on jurisprudence and generations of students of Islamic knowledge.
The Grand Imam extended his deepest condolences to the family of the deceased, and to his students and admirers throughout the Muslim world, praying to Allah Almighty to grant him His abundant mercy, to place his contributions of knowledge in his good deeds, and to grant his family and loved ones patience and solace. “To Allah we belong and to Him we shall return.”
