Al-Azhar Grand Imam directs coverage of travel and accommodation expenses for sick Thai student’s family
In a humanitarian gesture, Al-Azhar Grand Imam orders full medical coverage for a Thai student, along with travel and accommodation expenses for his family so they can accompany him during treatment.
The Grand Imam received the family of Kamal Al-Yaqeen Saming—a Thai student at the Faculty of Islamic Sciences who had suffered a severe health crisis that left him in a coma for over forty days—to inquire about his health and follow up on the progress of his treatment.
The Grand Imam welcomed the family of the Thai student to Al-Azhar headquarters, affirming the institution’s commitment to providing him with comprehensive care and support. He emphasized that Al-Azhar will cover the full cost of treatment until his recovery, while continuously monitoring his health condition. Furthermore, he assured the family that the institution remains dedicated to ensuring the student receives the highest standard of medical attention.
The Grand Imam had directed that the student’s family in Thailand be contacted immediately and brought to Egypt to be by his side during his treatment, with Al-Azhar covering all expenses related to visas, travel tickets, and accommodation. The student’s family has indeed arrived in Egypt; His Eminence personally welcomed them, inquired about their well-being, and assured them that all necessary support and care would be provided to both them and their son.
As a support for the student, His Eminence directed that he be placed on an Al-Azhar scholarship—despite not previously holding one—to alleviate his financial burden and assist him in continuing his educational journey at Al-Azhar Al-Sharif. He emphasized that foreign students receive special care from Al-Azhar, as they serve as ambassadors for its message of moderation across the globe.
The student’s family expressed their profound thanks and gratitude to His Eminence for this noble humanitarian gesture, as well as for the care, attention, and support they have received since their son fell ill. They emphasized that this action embodies Al-Azhar’s authentic values of caring for its own students and standing by them under all circumstances.
