Under the generous patronage of the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Prof. Ahmed Al-Tayyeb, a joint Daˁwah (Missionary) convoy by Al-Azhar scholars and the Ministry of Endowments will be launched next Friday to Alexandria Governorate. It is scheduled that the convoy will be led by Dr. Muhammad Abdur-Rahman Ad-Duwaini, Grand Imam’s Deputy, Dr. Muhammad Mukhtar Gomaa, Minister of Endowments, and Dr. Nazir Ayad, Secretary General of the Islamic Research Academy. The convoy shall commence by a meeting with Major General Mohamed Al-Sharif, Governor of Alexandria, followed by intensive activities in 15 mosques throughout the governorate. This will be followed by a joint meeting between the convoy members, which will be attended by a large number of Imams and preachers of the governorate in Abu Bakr As-Siddiq camp. Many new religious and secular issues will be discussed in the meeting. The convoy aims to raise awareness among Imams and preachers of key societal issues, train them to draft solutions to such issues, and introduce the solutions to the community in an accessible manner.
The convoy springs from the role of Al-Azhar Ash-Sharif and the Ministry of Endowment in disseminating moderate and enlightened religious thought, confronting extremist ideas, and working to refute them through live discussions and dialogues between Al-Azhar scholars and public citizens.
