Kazakhstan’s President invites Grand Imam of Al-Azhar to inaugurate next Congress of Religious Leaders

Al-Azhar Grand Imam’s speech accurately described the state of the Muslim nation and proposed solutions to division and fragmentation, Kazakh Senate Chairman


We appreciate Al-Azhar’s role in promoting brotherhood and coexistence in our countries, Kazakh Senate Chairman 


Today, Wednesday, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Prof. Ahmad Al-Tayyeb, received Mr. Maulen Ashimbayev, Chairman of the Senate of the Republic of Kazakhstan, at his residence in the Bahraini capital. The meeting took place on the sidelines of their participation in the Intra-Islamic Dialogue Conference.  

The Chairman of the Kazakh Senate emphasized that the speech delivered by the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar at the Intra-Islamic Dialogue Conference precisely described the condition of the Muslim nation (Ummah), briefly addressed the challenges facing the Islamic world, and provided solutions to counter division and fragmentation, which have weakened and exhausted the nation. The Kazakh Senate Chairman praised the Grand Imam’s religious leadership and highlighted the significance of the conference. He expressed appreciation for Al-Azhar’s vital support for Muslims worldwide, particularly in Kazakhstan.


The Chairman of the Kazakh Senate extended his gratitude to the Grand Imam for Al-Azhar’s continuous support, along with the Muslim Council of Elders, for the Muslims of Kazakhstan and for the Conference of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions, which Kazakhstan hosts annually. He pointed out that the regional office of the Muslim Council of Elders in Astana undertakes constructive initiatives to strengthen the values of coexistence, spread the principles of human fraternity, and empower youth and women in the country.

In addition, the Chairman of the Kazakh Senate delivered an official invitation from Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, inviting the Grand Imam to visit Kazakhstan and inaugurate the upcoming edition of the “Conference of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions” in September. He stated, “I was keen to come to Bahrain specifically to meet Your Eminence and personally deliver the Kazakh president’s invitation, as you represent a reference not only for Muslims but as a fair voice advocating a moderate religion that respects human dignity and upholds diversity and difference.”

For his part, the Grand Imam welcomed the invitation from the Kazakh president and expressed his willingness to attend, God willing. He reaffirmed that Al-Azhar and the Muslim Council of Elders are keen to support this important conference, as it serves as a global platform that represents the voice of religion and seeks to strengthen its role and presence in addressing common humanitarian challenges.
