His Eminence the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif and Chairman of the Muslim Council of Elders, Prof. Ahmad Al-Tayyeb,  was keen to offer his condolences in person to the family of the late Prof. Mohamed El-Mahrasawy. His Eminence stopped by Al-Azhar University and attended the mourning ceremony before heading to Cairo Airport to travel to his hometown, Luxor, to complete his recovery, which doctors advised him to do after his Eminence suffered a health problem during the week.

His Eminence was keen to offer his condolences to the family of Dr. Al-Mahrasawi, in appreciation of the late scholar, and in recognition of his distinguished services in serving his religion and country, and spreading Al-Azhar’s message. He also spoke with the family members of the deceased about the efforts of the late scholar, his pride, and his respect for the status of Al-Azhar. His Eminence stressed that his door as well as Al-Azhar's will remain open to them at any time. He prayed to Allah Almighty to shower the late scholar, a man of Al-Azhar, knowledge, and the learned, with His vast mercy and forgiveness, and to place his service to Al-Azhar and his efforts in spreading knowledge in the scale of his good deeds.
