The Grand Imam:

The essence of Islam's message is to spread and establish peace among all

There is no solution to what the world is suffering today except by returning to religion

Cypriot Parliament Speaker affirms her country's appreciation for the efforts of the Grand Imam in promoting interfaith dialogue and spreading the values of peace and brotherhood.

 

His Eminence the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, Prof. Ahmad Al-Tayyeb, received today, Tuesday, at Al-Azhar HQ, Her Excellency Ms. Annita Demetriou, President of the Cypriot House of Representatives, to discuss ways of cooperation in the scientific field.

 

His Eminence welcomed the President of the Cypriot House of Representatives and her accompanying delegation to Al-Azhar Al-Sharif. He stressed that the essence of the message of Islam is to spread and establish peace among all, and that Al-Azhar throughout its history has been dedicated to spreading this tolerant message. Therefore, Al-Azhar established the Egyptian Family House in Egypt, in cooperation with Egyptian churches, to eliminate sectarian strife and curb fanaticism that exploits religious extremism and employs it to achieve malicious goals. 

Al-Azhar has also opened globally to religious and cultural institutions, which led to the spread of peace. Al-Azhar also held the Emerging Peacemakers Forum with the Canterbury Cathedral, and signed the historic Human Fraternity Document with Pope Francis, Pope of the Catholic Church, whom Al-Azhar wishes a speedy recovery so that he can return to continue his path of spreading coexistence and serving humanity.

 

The Grand Imam stressed that the only solution to the world's suffering today is to return to religion and revive its moral values and constitutions that preserve human dignity. He emphasized that, unfortunately, religion is often exploited to achieve political goals. He added that the world, under the current circumstances, needs the true principles of religion that promote goodness for all, far removed from any false goals or concepts. He emphasized that the absence of international justice and using double standards will turn the world into a jungle where the strong prey on the weak.

The President of the Cypriot House of Representatives affirmed her country's appreciation for the efforts of His Eminence the Grand Imam in promoting interfaith dialogue and spreading the values of peace and brotherhood. She noted that Egypt is a model of peaceful coexistence among followers of different religions, which demonstrates the pivotal role played by Al-Azhar in this regard. She affirmed her country's openness to benefiting from Al-Azhar's expertise in training Cypriot imams, thus promoting the spread of a culture of peace, coexistence, and social harmony among all.
